Headline: Severn Trent Water Controversy

• Water company "boss" says water fluoridation is "mass medication".
• Fluoridation "over my dead body" he adds.

In a quite extraordinary meeting held at Shifnal Town Council on Thursday, 18th July, 2002, a senior representative of Severn Trent Water (STW) stated fluoridation of the County of Shropshire would only occur "over my dead body". This constitutes a remarkable statement considering that STW strenuously support water fluoridation.

The campaigning website, fluoride.org.uk, commends this stance but questions the motives and validation of such a bold statement. It remains to be seen whether or not the company's representative, Peter Barrett, is indicating a radical shift in STW's policy on fluoridation - albeit that he added that he was "speaking personally".

It is certain, however, that water fluoridation is very much 'under the spotlight' at the present time due it's tarnished reputation and poor credentials. For example:

• On the 25th April, 2002, The United States Environmental Agency (USEPA) made a "Request For Assistance" (RFA). The subject of this 'request' was the "MEASUREMENT OF FLUOROSILICATES IN DRINKING WATER". In layman's terms, the USEPA wants to know what happens to fluorosilicates when they are added to water. And this is after decades after the introduction of water fluoridation! Reference: USEPA
• It is a fact that the fluorosilicate used in UK water fluoridation schemes is hexafluorosilicic acid ("Hex"). This is contaminated product which contains such chemicals as lead, arsenic, mercury, etc. In the USA, Masters & Coplan have claimed an association between the use of this chemical and the uptake of lead in children, leading to behavioural problems. • STW have yet to state exactly what happens when they add "Hex" to water. The company's laboratories should have the answers the USEPA require, especially as it has been estimated that only about 2/3rds of Hex actually 'disassociates' and becomes fluoride ions. Will STW confirm this and tell us what happens to the other 1/3rd?

For too long the Government, the medical and dental professions, and the water companies have got away with making vague statement about Hex and how it reacts when added to water. It is time for the truth.
